EmBARKING On An Adventure

Welcome to Penny For Your Thoughts

No my name is not Penny, my name is Stephanie, but my adorable puppy is named Penelope (I often refer to her as Penny). But a few months ago I adopted an adorable puppy from a lovely family that was running a rescue out of their home.

I drove about an hour away to save this little lady from ending up at an orphanage like the one that cute little ginger Annie ended up at.

Okay... so she is not a human, but I am sure they make cute puppies do tricks and things to entertain themselves. Anyway, getting back on track, she is a half Chihuahua and either Rhodesian Ridgeback or Pug. I think she is a bit more pug since she has somewhat of a wrinkle face.

The reason I am posting about this is because she has a sassy attitude due to her breed. As a new young parent who is getting their Master's focusing mostly on sustainability and as a requirement for a class project to improve an area of my life moving it towards sustainability I have decided to start with my pup Penny. Since I am not the biggest burlap wearing hippie, much of a bicyclist, or a vegan I need to find other options to lower my footprint so here it goes!

So back to Penny... I have decided to help her live a more sustainable lifestyle as my main focus for this blog. I came up with the idea when I had a summer internship where I was learning about Best Management Practices for the National Pollution Elimination Discharge System Phase II initiative that I was working on for local municipalities that our stormwater commission worked with. Furthermore, the whole scare of poisoned dog food a few years ago made me weary about what I give her. Having had experience with other family dogs of mine in the past I was set out on a mission to improve her quality of life. So here goes my adventures into the land of a sustainable puppy paradise. I hope you will enjoy my successes and my failures in the adventure I am emBARKING on. Stay tuned in for more adorable pictures of Penny, probably some great all natural recipes for treats for her... and maybe a few for you, local places in Bloomington to bring you pet, things we are discussing and reading about in my Sustainable Communities class that may impact the way you view the world around you, probably a few funny dog memes I find here and there, my local adventures and outings for eco friendly community fun,  and any other nifty things I stumble upon along the way.

Friends FUR-ever,
Stephanie & Penny
